“It started with a dream…”

Like most kids growing up in country towns across the world, LORD vocalist/guitarist LT had his walls plastered with posters of his heroes, with big dreams of one day following in their footsteps. And follow he did, taking that dream across Australia and to the world.

The story of LORD starts in the Australian Outback town of Broken Hill, home of Mad Max – The Road Warrior, and the birthplace of Dungeon, the band which would later go on to become the genesis of LORD. Over the course of its career, Dungeon became the go-to band for Australian promoters seeking a worthy local act to complement international tours. This led to the band sharing the stage with impressive names such as Megadeth, Nightwish, Opeth, Nevermore, Edguy, Doro, Destruction, Angra, Metal Church and many more, as well as their own headlining tours and festival appearances. Dungeon went on to be one of Australia’s longest-running, high-profile melodic metal bands with a string of well received albums, DVDs and three international tours.

In 2003, LT released an album of solo material under the moniker of LORD for the first time, comprised of music that he felt was too personal or inappropriate for Dungeon. The album, “A Personal Journey”, and LORD in general, was purely a side project at the time.

Fast forward to late 2005 and Dungeon had returned from touring internationally with metal titans Megadeth. Internal tensions once again flared up within the ranks of the band, so much that it finally prompted LT to put an end to Dungeon and reinvent LORD as a legitimate band with fresh and hungry players.

Hitting the ground running in early 2006, LORD immediately embarked on a national headlining tour and then went on to share the stage with Queensryche, Nightwish, Nevermore, Saxon, Gamma Ray, Leaves Eyes and more, as well billing on festivals such as Metal For The Brain, Overcranked and Festival Of The Dead, and several more Australian and New Zealand headlining tours.

LORD expands upon the diversity that was established by Dungeon. Whilst Dungeon was very much grounded in the power / traditional / thrash metal genres, the band’s style often flirted with hard rock and melodic death metal. LORD takes Dungeon’s open-minded approach and pushes the envelope even further, venturing into areas as diverse as AOR, mainstream rock/pop, and all the way up to the most extreme metal styles, all the while keeping one foot firmly planted in the solid stylistic base that Dungeon was renowned for.

These diverse influences culminated in the first “true” LORD album, “Ascendence”, released in 2007, featuring the lineup of LT (lead vocals, guitars, keyboards), Tim “TY” Yatras (drums, vocals), Andy Dowling (bass, vocals) and Mark Furtner (guitars, vocals). This album was received enthusiastically by both fans and music critics alike. LORD followed up this album with 2008’s “Hear No Evil” EP, 2009’s critically acclaimed “Set In Stone” album (which spawned an incredible five video clips, including one for their tongue-in-cheek cover of the Kylie Minogue hit “On A Night Like This”) and 2010’s “Return Of The Tyrant” EP which marked the departure of drummer TY, replaced by then-21 year old drumming prodigy Damian Costas.

LORD has continued to tour solidly since 2006, twice to Japan, once to New Zealand and countless times around Australia. 2011 was a quiet year for the band on the live front, however, taking an entire year off to regroup, focus their goals and begin crafting the songs that will appear on the next album.

2012 is already shaping up to be one of the biggest yet for LORD. Already locked in are festival appearances in Europe, the first of many dates on an Australian headlining tour and shows with metal legends Iced Earth, as well as more video releases and of course a new album due for release this year.

From a bedroom in the desert to the world stage; the dream is very much alive and well!
